Douglas Leone is a General Partner at Sequoia Capital focusing on mobile, internet, software and communication companies. Doug has represented Sequoia in its investments in Aster Data, Aruba Networks, Meraki, Netezza, Rackspace, and Service Now. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital in 1988, he held sales and sales management positions at Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and Prime Computer.
He holds an MS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University, and an MS in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Leone also earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.
Sharmila was the first business executive to join the Aster Data founding team and led the company’s product strategy and marketing resulting in Aster Data’s leadership position in the ‘Big Data’ market. Aster Data was acquired by Teradata in April 2011. Prior to Aster Data, Sharmila was Chief Marketing Officer of the largest business unit (BTO) within HP Software. Prior to HP, Sharmila was Executive Vice President of Marketing at Opsware Inc., leading marketing from 2002 to its eventual acquisition by HP in 2007. Sharmila was also VP Marketing at Netscape, VP at Kiva Software and held management positions at Microsoft and General Magic.
Sharmila received her Master’s in management from the Kellogg Graduate School and her BA in business and economics and BS in computer science from Northwestern University.
Pete joined NEA in 2005 and focuses on early-stage enterprise software, systems and consumer internet companies. He is the co-head of NEA’s enterprise software practice group, and serves on several boards for NEA portfolio companies. Past investments include Xensource (acquired by Citrix Systems) and Teracent (acquired by Google).
Prior to NEA, Pete was Senior Director of Strategic Alliances at VMware where he struck the company’s initial OEM deals and grew annual sales through OEMs from $0 to $40 million in four years. Pete ran product management at Mirapoint and worked in sales and marketing at Hewlett-Packard, including Worldwide Product Manager for the mid-range server business. Pete began his career at Montgomery Securities in the Technology Corporate Finance group. Pete received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and his BA in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley.
Rob joined River Cities Capital Funds in 2004 and focuses on the IT sector, with an emphasis on Software-as-a-Service. Prior to joining River Cities, Rob was VP of Corporate Development at Intelliseek, Inc. Currently, Rob is either on the board of, or has board observation responsibility for the following portfolio companies: DialogTech, PerfectServe, Building Engines. Previous board member portfolio companies include: MedPlast, Trax Technologies MX Logic and Invivodata.
Rob received his MBA with distinction from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Virginia.
Bob Rinek is co-CEO of PJC Capital Partners LLC, a managing director in the merchant banking group, as well as a member of the general partner. Prior to his current role, Bob established the firm's financial institutions group, FIG, and served as the global group head. Currently, he is either on the board of, or has board observation responsibility for the following portfolio companies: Living Proof, PerfectServe, Harvest Power, LogRhythm, and Brainyak, Inc.
Bob received his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and his B.A. in Economics and History from Denison University.
Shashi Upadhyay, Ph.D.
Shashi is the cofounder and CEO of Lattice Engines and is responsible for advancing the company’s vision to deliver world-class analytics software to a global base of Fortune 5000 customers. Before founding Lattice Engines, he was a Partner at McKinsey & Company where he served Fortune 5000 clients on improving productivity. During the last downturn, he worked with the CEOs of several troubled companies to help conduct operational and strategic turnarounds. He is currently an advisor to Amar Chitra Katha, the leading children’s publication in India.
Shashi holds an undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur and a Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell University.
Kent McCormick, Ph.D.
Kent is the cofounder and VP of Innovation at Lattice, and is responsible for setting product direction and deployment activities. Before founding Lattice Engines, Kent served as director of business operations at EMC. In this role, he had been leading pricing and operational analytics for all of EMC. Before this, Kent was a consultant at McKinsey & Company – working with Fortune 5000 companies on product development, as well as sales & marketing business problems.
Kent received a Ph.D. in Physics from Berkeley, and before that a dual-degree in Physics and Mathematics from Rice University.
